I'm right-handed, so I imagine a RH layout would be best, right? > Yes, if you are Right Handed you should be using a RH layout, as the vowels "aoeui", should be then on the left, and "dhtns" on the right. I was like yourself about 5 years ago, hunt and peck with two or more fingers. I found that relabelling keys distracted from the learning process. Forcing yourself to look at the screen, and touch type will get you there much faster. Yes it is frustrating to type first many errors and having to correct, (thank computer gods for spellcheck) but it makes you learn much faster, and allows to keep the fingers on the home row. For a hunt and peck person, the process of doing this will get you to Touch type with all 10 fingers in no time. What is very interesting is that you can see that my fingers are always on the home row, the keycaps are actually wearing off and become very shiny. I used also Mavis Beacon with a dvorak layout to learn in the early days. Go for it and maeke the switch, you will see that very shorty you can reach 40 words per minute or more. Good luck,, Tony van Muyden.
