You stated that mutt fails the SMTP submission hence why I asked if
you tried msmtp as it has never failed for me.

If you don't want to use mutt to send you email
- in postfix set
          recipient_delimiter = +
- tell git to add a BCC to alp+git
- if you don't already use procmail create ~alp/.forward+git to pipe to procmail
- tell procmail to deliver email sent to alp+git to your sent folder.


I didn't realize that mutt has native SMTP support now. To be fair it
was only added 7 years ago to the dev branch. Direct SMTP support is
still absent from the Stable branch.
