I've been using a HP PSC printer for a few years and it's been working
fine. Though I did need to download hplip to get the drivers to work
properly on my Fedora machine. On Ubuntu I had no issues whatsoever.
I know some people who use a HP laser printer and it works fine under
Ubuntu as well.
So from my experience it seems that HP's are a pretty safe purchase.

Linux-friendly printer? I need a colour one for home use - and I'd
prefer to be able to get white-label cartridge refill/replacements
rather than pay the insane cost of the official ones.
I've found it to be a time-consuming effort to search such
characteristics in google and the mrs is getting impatient.
