Re: [OCLUG-Tech] Debian, amd64 & AHCI issues?

Hi Bart & Stephen,

Stock Debian 4.0 kernels (2.6.18-6). I've tried both amd64 and 686- bigmem. 686-bigmem panics on boot with reading corrupted library but works fine with 486. amd64 can't bring up the SATA link.

Some more digging and debugging help from a kernel geek friend showed that there is a bug in the SB-600 chip. It claims to do 64 bit addressing but doesn't. So it fails. There is a patch that made it into 2.6.22 which forced AHCI module to run in 32 bit mode addressing.

So the easiest solution is to switch to the unstable kernel. Otherwise, I would have build a new kernel.

Regards,
Spencer
