I did this initially, though the flaw was, I wasn't always at a prompt when I needed it. So I tried binding one key to each type of switch, but then another problem arose -- if one runs the same switch twice, your keyboard gets into a really wonky mode, and even running the opposite doesn't seem to help much. You need to run the same one over and over until you get back to normal. Hence, I wrote a script that actually reads the current modmapping, determines what I'm using, and makes the switch.
