A few year ago I moved off gmail to paying for an email host. I settled on Gandi since I was hosting my domain with them at the time. Now I'm looking at trying to self host it. At my work we switched over to using mailman3 and from the users perspective I found it a lot easier to use. I also like the hyperkitty frontend for it to read the archive from the web. I found the search actually works! I recall IT saying that it works better for any of our customer facing mailing lists. But I'm not as knowledgeable on that front.
