Or, when you're really concerned, use a VPN and/or Tor. I like Proton for its default end-to-end encryption, no advertising or data harvesting. And I'm happy to pay a bit for extra storage. Willing to put up with a little less convenience and ease of use compared to Gmail that I've been using for 20 years...
