At some point, there is dependency.  Network providers in Canada peer
with US network providers, and probably a lot of Canadian traffic to
other countries transits the US.  You can't really get away from that.
And I suspect a ton of Canadian sites and services are hosted on
AWS, Google Cloud or Azure, or use Cloudflare or similar US services.

Even CBC, that most Canadian of institutions, uses Akamai as its
CDN and has it's mail filtered by MIMECast, though CBC does appear
to host it's own mail servers in Canada.  At least, CBC owns
159.33.0.0/16 but I don't know if it's hosted in Canada.

My IMAP server is sitting 2.5m behind me. :) It's a Raspberry Pi with a
couple of USB-3 drives attached.
