Tom is probably on the right track, but just in case, my notes on my HP laptop
show

210830: an update made rtw89 non functional.

   Remedy:   cd ~/current/MachineSetup/HP21setup/background/rtw89
             # above contains code from https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw89
             make clean
             make
             sudo make install
             sudo reboot

I've had to do this twice now with 2 kernel updates.

Note that make will need buildessential and some other packages. How to get them?
I used a USB-ethernet dongle, which I've found super-helpful a number of times
to avoid wifi woes. Recommended. An example is

$15 item so you get wired connection (you should have several slots in your
modem-router or separate router depending on your setup.
