and now, an actual techie question. for a while with "git pulls" of the kernel source from versions 2.6.37xxx, integrated intel graphics would boot a system to a black screen. here's a good summary from a while back: http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2010/05/06/ubuntu-10-04-lucid-blank-screen-at-startup-workaround/ finally, sometime after 2.6.37 was released (which contained a number of i915-related commits), the problem mercifully went away. and, suddenly, it's back again. i just pulled the source, and built a new kernel (labelled with version 2.6.38-rc2+) and, once again, it's booting to a black screen. is anyone else who's in a similar situation seeing this? i'd just like to know i'm not alone. rday -- ======================================================================== Robert P.
