I have the same card and it works fine with wep and wpa/wpa2, but i don't
use the ipw3945 driver. i've been using the (beta)  iwlwifi driver from
intel. http://intellinuxwireless.org/ . the problem is that to use that
driver you have to use the mac80211 stuff too, so there's quite a bit
compiling and replacing to do. it's well worth it though, and all the docs
are on that page as well.
