  well, no one expected the spanish inquisition. :-) i may give devian
trixie a test drive (in spite of the inevitable pushback i might get
given the ubiquity of ubuntu at my place of work), but since it's my
personal laptop and as long as i can get things done, i suspect i will
be fine.

  i installed trixie on the new machine and it went smoothly (simply
asked for a separate /home filesystem, no other changes), now i just
have to get used to a different desktop.
