Re: setting up email server

That's interesting. I worked on the SME server and I still do, even though it is now known as MSL, Mitel Standard Linux. AFAIK the open source SME server effort died. Personally my gateway is a vanilla Debian box, and I have "recipes" to set up my services to talk to my DigitalOcean VPS.

I suppose I should look for a Canadian hosting company, as DigitalOcean, as great as they are, is American and the only North American data center I can put a "droplet" in is in New York.

I will definitely want to use dovecot (installed but not working), roundcube (installed but not working), and spamassassin (I expect I'll install once I start getting oodles of spam)

I run SA on my VPS. I had to shut off the daemon, it was killing my resource usage. I now opt to run sa-learn on a cronjob, assuming that my archive folders are ham and my junkmail folder is spam.

Finally - I don't get why self-signing should be a problem? By all means don't trust some-dodgy-domain.com, but trust that it comes from some- dodgy-domain.com. Paying for a certificate seems about as trustworthy as paying for a checkmark on nee-twitter.

I don't currently pay for a cert, I know my own CA and I tell my endpoints to accept it.
