Re: thoughts on linux on HP 14-fq1040ca?

I looked at either this one or the Intel i7 version. There seems to be a family of
machines using mostly same "bits" and changing processor and sizes of SSD.

FWIW Canada Computers Kanata has 1 and Merivale claims 3 in stock.

I liked speed, RAM and 1TB "disk".

When I went to look at the i5 level machines (about $300 less, and for different user)
the CC guy pointed out that the components were slightly dated. I think he was using
the USB version, which is not quite the latest. Conclusion was that these boxes are a
good value, but are maybe like the last cars of the 2020 season vs 2021 version of the
model.

Unfortunately, I've not got experience of how well they run Linux. Note that a desktop
I had them build in February had a network card that Ubuntu/Mint LTS did NOT yet have
support for. Worse, it "almost" worked. Discovered issue after lots of fooling around
after network printer printed 1/2 a page each time. Needed kernel >= 5.8, which is in
Ubuntu 20.10 or later. https://screenrant.com/best-linux-laptops/ shows an HP laptop
as #5 in their Laptop ranking, but how similar that is I'm not sure.
