Dianne's suggestion (which I should have thought of myself) revealed that whatever version of ssh Bunsenlabs is using only checks for "standard" key names e.g., id_rsa and similar. I have identifiers behind mine e.g., id_rsajn which weren't tried. I simply copied the key I want to use to id_rsa and things run fine. Possibly useful for others. Thanks to Dianne.
