First question, what features does your family require?

Now, I am convoluted and trying to simplify to two numbers; toll free, and direct. However, I have a number of numbers as my needs changed over the years. As a result, I have 4 different voip scenarios based on needs:

1. I have voip.ms for 3 numbers. I have a linksys voip adapter for one line, which rings my 'normal' phone. The normal phone has a battery backup and allows me to have an 'office phone' over the internet. No routing, no forwarding, no public listing etc.. A toll free number is attached to that, but not a big deal. I have no other requirements for those two lines.

2. For my other voip.ms line, I use the voip.ms dial routing, and it goes to my cell. That number is used in advertising whereas people can call me directly.

3. For the line in the signature, I use Callture. I will be migrating off that to voip.ms, but had used the included fax services so have not yet switched. That requirement going away, in the past few months, makes it time to get off of Callture. If you need to 'fax', then you can create a pdf and send it via Callture. You can also receive faxes that way. I communicated with voip.ms, and at first they did not have the feature, then the charges were a bit high, comparatively. I get an email with the voice mail.

4. Lastly, because of travel, before the world of voip on cells, I have a magic jack. which I have maintained. I like the costing and receiving emails with the VM.
Other Magic Jack uses:
The number has been used longer than voip.ms has been around and I have a number of accounts which use that as an id.
I use their app on my phone also.
There are times when calling bank / service centers toll free numbers, that the voip.ms service does not work and I get that I cannot call that number from my location. This is where the magic jack excels in getting me through.

Like I said convoluted, but I always tell everyone: eMail me., that goes to one bit bucket where I can monitor even when at a client site where I cannot take calls. :}

My 3¢ (Inflation)

---

James R
Griffin Services Plus INC
info [ at ] gspi [ dot ] ca
855-567-6636

On 2019-01-03 09:55, Alan McKay wrote:

I have voip.ms and I'm not clear on what features your family needs access to.

When you call our house line if nobody answers, you get a prompt
asking if you want to go to cell phones or voice mail.
If you go to cell phones it lists out the people with cell phones and
what number you have to press.
Same with voice mail, and when you leave the voice mail it emails it
to the appropriate person.

To unsubscribe send a blank message to linux+unsubscribe [ at ] linux-ottawa [ dot ] org
To get help send a blank message to linux+help [ at ] linux-ottawa [ dot ] org
To visit the archives: https://lists.linux-ottawa.org
