The Samsung is ML-1865 (not wireless).

I decided to try to get the Brother HL-2140 working. All the install
of the drivers shows up without any issues. The os correctly
identified the printer and installed the appropriate driver. However,
not when I ask it to print, it spits out the correct number of pages,
but they are all blank! Nothing in the printer properties points to
any problem, though.

So far I've just used the laptop in a wired network - I still have to
get the wireless working. I do recall that there have been issues with
the Broadcom nic's in Dell laptops when running any flavour of linux.
So if this is still an issue, I have a spare Intel wireless nic which I
will swap in (hardware is my forte).
