[OCLUG-Tech] anyone out there comfortable with openwrt and mediatek chips?

  i'm currently trying to build and install openwrt on *any* sort of
router or eval board incorporating mediatek parts, specifically:

  * MT7620A SoC (with onboard 2.4G radio)
  * MT7610E external 5G radio chip

recently, i grabbed one of these d-link dir-810l routers from canada
computers:

http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_1046_1047&item_id=061804

because, as you can see, there is an openwrt wiki page that *suggests*
you can build and install on it:

http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/d-link/dir-810l

in fact, doing a standard openwrt build, one gets a bunch of output
"sysupgrade" images for a number of "ramips" architectures:

openwrt-ramips-mt7620a-dir-810l-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin     <-- there
openwrt-ramips-mt7620a-Lenovo-y1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
openwrt-ramips-mt7620a-Lenovo-y1s-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
openwrt-ramips-mt7620a-mt7620a_mt7530-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
openwrt-ramips-mt7620a-mt7620a_mt7610e-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
openwrt-ramips-mt7620a-mt7620a-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
openwrt-ramips-mt7620a-mt7620a_v22sg-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
openwrt-ramips-mt7620a-mzk-750dhp-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
openwrt-ramips-mt7620a-na930-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
... and so on ...

  however, it seems impossible to flash that image to the router using
the factory firmware and the standard "Upgrade Firmware" button. i
have already upgraded the router to the latest official d-link
firmware -- that worked just fine, confirming that the d-link firmware
on the router is happy to accept newer d-link firmware.

  but the d-link firmware clearly doesn't like the sysupgrade image
produced by openwrt, and i don't know why. so, first question, has
anyone out there done this?

  more generally, i'm looking for *any* openwrt-happy router or dev
board that is based on the mediatek MT7620A/MT7610E chipset, so i'm
open to suggestions.

  if anyone wants to chat further, i can arrange to be at this week's
OCLUG meeting. i'd really like to resolve this issue so i can get on
with a project.
