  (aside: thanks for all the feedback about SSH yesterday, got some
interesting ideas but, for the most part, confirmed that what i'm
trying to do is not feasible with a R/O filesystem on the target.)

  i'm looking for pointers/advice on configuring/running PPP in a
really robust manner. i have it set up now, that part's not hard --
using minicom and a minicom runscript to configure the 3G modem, then
firing up pppd. none of that is rocket surgery.

  but it's been a long time since i've messed with PPP so i'm
interested in whether anyone here is using it on a regular basis in a
context where it has to run reliably, automatically reconnect, and so
on.

  is anyone out there currently depending on PPP running solidly
(24/7?) and willing to share advice?  thanks.
