some of you should remember the first edition of my online kernel
programming course for beginners. i decided it was time to update it
completely and rework a few topics, so here's the first part of the
new and improved course:

http://crashcourse.ca/introduction-linux-kernel-programming-2nd-edition/introduction-linux-kernel-programming-2nd-edition

DISCLAIMER: as with the first edition, the *full* course will require
a subscription, but the first several lessons will be entirely free
and will, at the very least, guide a beginner through configuring and
building a new kernel, rebooting to that new kernel, and writing their
first loadable kernel module (LKM).

feel free to play along -- every lesson has a comments section where
you can ask questions or make suggestions. i'm guessing that the
first 5 or 6 lessons will be publicly available, after which it will
get into subscriber-only material. but until then, everyone's welcome
to follow along and write and run their first kernel module.
