September Meeting: The R statistical language

Date: September 7, 2010 at 7 p.m.
Location: University of Ottawa, room DMS 7170, 55 Laurier East

NOTE: TUESDAY SEPT 7.

The R statistical language is one of the most successful open source projects. It runs on all major operating systems and supports nearly 2500 add-in packages that are actively tested and purged if not functioning. Great graphics, automated publication quality reports that are updateable with new data, and a huge array of strong mathematical tools built around a high-level object oriented programming language. See www.r-project.org.

We are inviting the Ottawa Gatineau R User Group to share this meeting with us.

An intro to R
Speaker: John C. Nash

Why should you be interested in R?

Even if you are not doing statistics, R provides some useful tools for quick data management and manipulation. It has very nice graphics for quantitative material. And a nifty object oriented programming language that is extremely high level. The package management structure is perhaps the most advanced of any major software system in that the nearly 2500 packages undergo almost daily testing and failed packages are removed from the repository.
