Re: [OCLUG-Tech] Re: Contents of Linux digest, Vol 42, Issue 3

Hi Eric;

You are not missing much. We have Ubuntu on one of the machines here.

My reasons for using Fedora are the following:

      * The very first time I tried something Linux-y it was from a
RedHat 7.1 disk that was a magazine give away. Fedora diverged
from RedHat to be the defacto beta (perhaps gamma) version of
their commercial RedHat distributions. So I stuck with
        something familiar.
      * RedHat has well written manuals that mostly apply to both Fedora
        and RedHat.
      * Fedora tries to be cutting edge with all the very latest
        stable?? applications and kernel versions.
      * I started to use Linux not because I needed a production system
(far from it), but because I wanted to learn as much as I could
about OS's and computer hardware. That makes me a dedicated
hobbyist forever playing with the "new".
      * There is a certain small joy in being the first one to locate
and report a bonofide bug -- something you can always count on
        in the latest Fedora version.
      * Because I am always playing around and experimenting, a new
version of Fedora gives me a good excuse every six months or so
to clean out all the cruft and to start again from defaults. My
backups and /home keep any non-defaults I want to use.
      * Fedora has a great friendly mailing list.

If you are doing stuff that needs complete stability, stay with Ubuntu.
