Ralph:

Each topic area within Linux is probably worthy of a book in itself. I've found that general purpose "Linux" books let me down all the time because they do not have enough detail to solve problems. 10 pages on bash isn't enough to teach you enough to be useful.

The Bash book from O'Reilly is excellent. Ian! D. Allen is also excellent, but not available in paper book form. It would be cool to have him available in talking book form, but then you'd have to feed him.

Invest in topical books as you encounter areas needing investigation - you will not regret it. I've probably put Tim O'Reilly's kids through college.
