ExitCertified has generously made their classroom space available to OCLUG for these training sessions and other events. WHAT IS THIS MONTH'S TOPIC? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This talk will cover the steps that were taken to build a new version of the OCLUG web site using the [Django web development framework](http://www.djangoproject.com). Django has excellent [documentation](http://www.djangoproject.com/documentation/) and a very good [tutorial](http://www.djangoproject.com/documentation/tutorial01/) online. This talk does not follow the tutorial but instead tries to show how Django's features fit the needs of OCLUG's web site. Features discussed include: * Sites and applications * Request handling and middleware * Data models * Database object-relational mapper * Admin interface * Templates * Authentication (users and groups) * Flatpages and redirects * Syndication (RSS feeds) ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ian Ward is the author of Urwid (http://excess.org/urwid/) Console User Interface Library, and a number of other projects hosted at http://excess.org/. He has studied Computer Science at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. He was first introduced to Linux in 1999 while working at Corel. Ian is part-owner of a retail lighting business (http://www.arevcolighting.com/) in Ottawa's west end that is using Linux for all its day-to-day business.
