Intel cloned the amd64 (aka x86-64) platform.  If you have a Intel
processor in a laptop that's capable of 64bit -- it's not Itanium --
then it will run amd64 distributions.

Ubuntu only has two processor flavours for x86 line: i586 and amd64.
