I tested a few systems on an older TripLite 500VA UPS. The UPS
consumes about 20w under no load. Under a load of 60w it consumed a
total of 75w making it 80% efficient. From a quick search of spec
sheets 80% efficiency seems typical for these inexpensive UPS.
According to the meter the UPS would also periodically consume an
additional 60w briefly. I suspect this is a misread. The meter is
designed to read steady loads and has trouble with these spikes.
