Re: Any Guix or NixOS users?

Hi Lucas,

I don't use myself, but you might consider approaching the forum at

 * linuxcommunity.io <https://linuxcommunity.io/>

where one user, among others, has expressed that if his Arch distro, folded, then he would fall back on NixOS, which he does use, in parallel with his Arch:

 * mention of NixOS as fallback if Arch folded
   <https://linuxcommunity.io/t/if-your-distro-disappeared-what-would-you-switch-to/6921/28>

He might be willing to respond to your queries.

Please note that for my own curiosity, given the hiatus surrounding my preferred UbuntuMATE, I have just posted a query with some questions of my own <https://linuxcommunity.io/t/if-your-distro-disappeared-what-would-you-switch-to/6921/52>, directly to that individual, in the hopes of getting answers this time around (a different user <https://linuxcommunity.io/t/welcome-introduce-yourself/6712/997> didn't acknowledge or respond).

Hope that helps!

Hey,

I was looking at trying out Guix since the idea of transactional package manager seems pretty interesting and having your whole OS defined by a config file seems like it could be really nice for a server that you might want to redeploy somewhere. I'm curious if anyone else has used it and if you have any comments on if you liked it or not. I'm pretty interested in figuring out:

- Is having to do everything through config files annoying?
- Is running the OS image nice, or do you just use it as a package manager on top of a different os (is so which os?)
- Do you use it on your desktop/laptop or only for a headless server?
- If you've tried both Guix and Nix which one do you like better and why?

BR,
Lucas
