Hey Brett,
Thunderbird doesn't give me a clean view to break it up like that but
manually checking its been broken up into three separate threads (shown
below). It looks like whenever someone replied to the original email it
came in as a new thread. Looking at Robert's first email it has the ID
(grabbing this from the raw email headers using the "view source" option
in thunderbird)
Message-Id: <20260819140538 [ dot ] 9B87720CB2 [ at ] mail [ dot ] linux-ottawa [ dot ] org>
Then Nash's response has the in-reply-to set to
In-Reply-To: <20260819140529 [ dot ] 984AD20AB1 [ at ] mail [ dot ] linux-ottawa [ dot ] org>
which doesn't match Robert's original email, and has the message id
Message-Id: <20260819150042 [ dot ] 524AD20A90 [ at ] mail [ dot ] linux-ottawa [ dot ] org>
Dianne's response has the in-reply-to
In-Reply-To: <20260819150046 [ dot ] BEB7E20CBA [ at ] mail [ dot ] linux-ottawa [ dot ] org>
Then Rick's reply to Robert's original email has the in reply to

which doesn't match in-reply-to of Robert's original email and message ID

So it seems the in-reply-to never match the email's id, and
thunderbird's threading falls back to having the subject match or
something. Not sure how the the three separate ones group together though.

I checked another mailing list I'm part of that threads properly in
thunderbird and the in-reply-to match up. So I think that's the issue
