And it gets worse/better. Try pyenv. Talk about convoluted.

Personally I'm starting to see the wisdom in C/C++ not having any kind of upstream module repository. Nothing to screw up. Nothing to attack. Lately it seems like pypi, npm, crates.io and especially Go just pulling unvetted from Github were all a bad idea.
