I've got my topics segregated and identified, but admit search is a weakness.
However, my main issue at the moment is too much rather than too little choice.
I seem to have stirred up a whirlwind.

Similarly, you could make the logic in that single index HTML page (pre-built, static) also handle a set of keywords
associated with each indexed item, and again for date. Don't know enough to say it could also handle substring search
(on a pre-built-index, again part of that single HOME HTML page.

This is where static files fall over: can they be sorted by Topic, Tag, Filename, Date,...?
What about searching contents? Sure, `grep` exists, but since they're to be accessed in a browser, that does not help
there.
I imagine static files can work in some instances, but I'm just a big Non-Fan, personally.
