Re: Any FOSS developers in Ottawa? or wannabe FOSS developers?

Hi everyone,

I received the full message below from Ron. This statement caught my attention in particular:
"could pay domestic companies to work on open solutions that could be used here
and in other countries."
This is very true! Personally, I really like tools like Open Hospital and R Studio for this reason.

On a related note a like the idea of working on stuff that could push
FOSS more into the government.

This is a dream I've shared for a long time, and there couldn't be a better time to implement such changes.

Given the current state of the world it
would be nice if we weren't as dependent on US tech companies and
infrastructure. Besides that it would be nice that instead of paying
for licensing fees to foreign companies the government could pay
domestic companies to work on open solutions that could be used here
and in other countries. Would help build tech industry and expertise in
Canada and make sure more of our dollars aren't leaving the country.

On this subject, I've been exploring setting up a Canadian-hosted email service: hosted in Canada by Canadians.

No ads, no AI bots, encryption-at-rest, IMAP, JMAP, SMTP, OAuth, OpenID Connect, CalDAV / CardDAV / WebDAV support, and more.

If anyone's interested in beta-testing with a free email account, kindly let me know - feedback from real use by real, technical users would be fantastic!
