Dianne makes a great suggestion below!
On a similar note.. I had to go inexpensive for my security "system",
which means that at this point I am going through a lot of batteries,
having to go up and down ladders regularly, managing memory cards, can't
connect from my cellphone, have had ongoing problems with attachment
brackets, etc. I have cameras very similar to these:

But there are ones that come with small solar panels - like this:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0DXDTWSTK/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?pd_rd_i=B0DXDTWSTK&pd_rd_w=pDosi&content-id=amzn1.sym.516c2169-755e-413a-a38a-68230f4ab66f&pf_rd_p=516c2169-755e-413a-a38a-68230f4ab66f&pf_rd_r=CCXPXTS2MNYNN1T6SY9R&pd_rd_wg=demtQ&pd_rd_r=e2b397eb-19a3-4207-9bb4-9892a70bf387&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWw&th=1
Not real-time but enough for my needs, and for law enforcement's needs.
Has anyone tried the solar-panel integrated version or similar? I'm okay
not being able to connect via cellphone, but I would like to decrease
the battery usage.
Thanks,
Katie

You could use a USB camera with a Raspberry Pi, which is what I do.
The camera I use is this one:

or

The cost of the USB camera, a pi 3 and power supply etc. probably adds
up to about the cost of your Canada Computers camera.
When the light level drops below a certain point, it switches to IR
mode, which is quite nice.

Dianne.
