When I was working, I had my personal email (self-hosted) and work email
(Google Workspace). I never logged in to Google to read my work email,
nor did I point my email client at it. I ran "getmail" from cron and
injected the work email into a separate account on my own IMAP server,
and deleted it from gmail (as in... really deleted it. Getmail sent
whatever magic IMAP commands were neede to make this happen.)

If you have a machine that's always-on, especially a low-power one like
a Pi with a USB drive, running your own IMAP server and keeping your
mail on it is a good solution, especially if you read your email from
multiple devices.

Regards,

Dianne.
