Personally I host mine on a $5/month VPS from digitalocean. It's running Debian 12 and it works fine once SPF and DKIM were set up. I threw in a DMARC record too, but I don't know what I'm doing there so I didn't do much. It's sufficient for sending and receiving. Sometimes in a script I might use msmtp to go through that box, or maybe an app key with resend.com, but most of the time, it's just postfix on a home box using my VPS as a relay. Running a mail server is a pain. But I tried paying for proton for a while, and I got fed up after they had an outage and we decided to cut back on SAAS subscriptions anyway. Mike
