Re: rsync processes that fill up root disk

The rsync was spawned by timeshift as far as I can determine. I turned off timeshift and all is
functioning normally and there's plenty of disk space (after timeshift backups removed). Timeshift
seems to have been introduced to Linux Mint in 18.3, with possibly some auto-install in 19.1.

While I can appreciate automatic backups (I appear to have invoked monthly cron job, but suspect
this got created during the install), running out of disk is a serious downside. The forum messages
about timeshift on Linux Mint site are either "great" or "waste of time", with the latter seemingly
related to out of disk problems. Looks like the program/suite needs to add some sensible space
checking, which is never trivial.

Perhaps the software has investors in the disk business!

Thanks to contributors for ideas of finding the source. I knew elements of these, but
the hints will get incorporated into my toolkit.

Best, JN
