If its just the Saturday I could probably do it. Are they providing a canned Ubuntu image for the VM? There are several teams from Ottawa high schools participating, including Ashbury College. What they need for the Quick Build day (January 4, 2015) is some people with experience setting up a VM host on Windows or OSX, and installing and configuring a Linux guest OS on the host. I believe this a collective exercise, so there will be multiple teams at the same location, all needing assistance at essentially the same time. Please contact myself or Kat Woodward by email if you are interested and available to help. Anybody who is interested in continuing to help with the remainder of the project is more than welcome. Software, mechanical, or electrical troubleshooting experience would be a big plus. There are videos of last year's regional finals here <http://watchfirstnow.com/archives>, the Ashbury Androids are team #4825. There isn't a lot of detail yet...and probably won't be until Kick-Off (Saturday January 3rd). Though one thing that seems clear is that the simulator will run off Ubuntu. Most of the kids probably have little or no exposure to Linux and will be running either Windows or Mac. This seems a good time to introduce them to VMs...either VirtualBox or VMWare Player. So getting them install the VM software and then setting up a guest Ubuntu system is what we'll need. It seems from the video that FRC will hopefully be providing a relatively straight forward install process once you have Ubuntu installed. Maybe you can make a converts along the way :) Mike On Mon, Dec 15, 2014 at 10:20 AM, Katherine Woodward wrote: Hi Aaron, Hope all is well. I am looking for a mentor, either you or one of your Linux friends, to walk the students through installing a virtual machine on their computers to run Linux off of so they can install a robot simulator to test their code. This would be done in the afternoon of quick build, Sunday January 4th, from 1:00pm – 3:00pm. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
