off-topic but kind of time-critical request if anyone out there can help -- i have a colleague that has a *pile* of geographical data in XML form, over top of which he would like to drop a clickable map of canada so that browsers can zoom in on any part of it, then click on the icon representing any individual record to get a pop-up with the info for that bit of data. i grabbed and cleaned up the data for him -- single file containing 22,000 XML elements, total of 150M file representing specific locations across canada, with each XML element containing a specific latitude and longitude. so he took a small cross-section, and uploaded it to (i think) google maps service, which seems to work fine, except that service is *extremely* limited in that it takes i think he said only 200 records. yuck. i'm sure this can't be hard, i've just never done it personally, but i'm certainly qualified to mess with the XML and write some stylesheets to extract portions of the data. if anyone has done this and can help, i'll be sitting down with him again this afternoon, and i plan on showing up at oclug meeting at 6 this evening if anyone who thinks they can help wants to chat. this doesn't have to be charity, you're quite welcome to treat this as a short contract and bill for your time if you can help. so, i'll see everyone at oclug this evening. rday -- ======================================================================== Robert P.
