I met Mrs. Woodward at a seminar for developing monitoring and control systems using the National Instruments CompactRIO modular I/O system. Her FRC team at Ashbury College needs some mentors to help with their robot design. The details are in her email below. If there is anyone able to provide some last-minute advice and/or assistance, could you contact me so that I can put you in contact with her? -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: Mentoring for Ashbury College robotics team Date: Wed, 12 Feb 2014 16:06:32 -0500 From: Katherine Woodward To: Aaron Wilcox Our problems are generally mechanical. How to attach pieces together and how to implement our designs with different mechanisms. Thanks again! Are there major problems in a specific area that need troubleshooting? Katherine Woodward wrote: Aaron, I am not sure if you have any previous FRC (first robotics competition) experience, but every year we are given a new challenge and 6 weeks to build a robot to meet that challenge. This years challenge is to pick up, pass, and throw a 2 foot exercise ball. We have one more week left to complete this goal. We have two mechanisms; a pick up mechanism and a kicker mechanism. At the moment we are troubleshooting. We use Java for our programming language. All electronics are mandated: we use a CRio for processing. Our weakest area is mechanical, but we can always use more mentors in any area. I usually assign a couple of students to a mentor each evening to work on a specific task. The students are from grade 9 to grade 12. You don't need to know Java to mentor unless you want to mentor the programmers. Thank you for your email! Let me know if you have any other questions.
