for the purpose of showing what a USB driver looks like, i'd like to
get some really simple USB device -- from the drivers/usb/misc kernel
source directory, i can see sample drivers for LED, LCD, seven-segment
display, that sort of thing.

that would be perfect -- something like this:

a multicolour LED, or a seven-segment display. anyone know something
for which one of those existing drivers would work and where i could
pick up something in town? or a suggestion for something equally
cheap, simple and already supported? thanks.
