Take a look in the vtiger code (if you don't mind the clutter, it is hard to read). In the MailManager Settings, when you choose Google or Yahoo then it knows the imap server name, whether to use SSL, whether to use IMAP2 or IMAP4, and maybe it knows to post-pend '@google.com' to your username.

Which mailing list would be a better choice for this question?
