John, Chris, I finally found the problem by looking at dmesg. On boot, MadWifi renames ath0 to ath1! Why? I don't know... Once I kew the right name of my interface, I started it with ifconfig then configured Wicd. It now works! Thanks to Chris for pointing me towards the Eeepc forums.
