[OCLUG-Tech] Murderous CF card

A friend of mine has run into a spot of trouble with a CF card: it seems to
kill any piece of hardware to which it is plugged in. As my experience with
CF is extremely minimal, I'm wondering if anyone here can shed some light on
what might be happening. I'll let him explain it...

Second. My server is dead. :( I got a CF-IDE adapter yesterday and
hooked up my 4 gig card. I certainly should have checked first, but
thought the default voltage should be fine so left it at 5 (it uses a
floppy power plug). System hangs at POST. Bumped voltage down to 3.3,
tried a 512 card i had, still hangs.
Hooked up my old drive, everything back the same, hangs at the POST
screen... I havent tried a cmos reset yet but am concerned.

Brought the CF's to work, tried hooking them up to an old CF camera
here... camrea's now dead.

As I understand it, CF cards *should* work at both 3.3v and 5v, so I don't
think that's the problem.

Any ideas?
